Mid-Continent Airport is pleased to report that September passenger traffic increased 5.97% over September 2009, and marks the biggest September on record in terms of passengers. The total number of passengers flying in and out of Wichita in September was 132,310. The previous September record occurred in 2007 with 125,881 total passengers. For the year, passenger traffic is up 2.59% over 2009.
“Even though there has been a significant decrease in number of available seats, we are now seeing demand for air travel increase, and airlines returning to profitability,” said Valerie Wise, Air Service and Business Development Manager.
“The increased passenger traffic is a positive sign for the Wichita airport,” said Dwight Greenlee, chairman of the Wichita Airport Advisory Board. “I am cautiously optimistic that this trend will continue into next year as the economy improves and business travel increases,” he said.
