The west runway will reopen Friday morning as Phase I of the rehabilitation work on runway 1L-19R wraps up. The rehab work will then move to Phase II which will close the East runway (RWY 1R-19L) through early November 2020. The project includes asphalt pavement rehab, electrical system replacement, primary power and switchgear replacement, redesignation of a portion of taxiway A5, and redesignation of Runway 14-32 to 15-33. The public will notice the difference in flight patterns in and out of ICT.
There will be a winter construction shutdown Nov. 5, 2020 – Feb. 28, 2021 when all airfield pavements are open. The entire construction project involves three phases and is scheduled to be completed in August 2021. H. W. Lochner (Lenexa) was selected from four firms to define the project scope and develop a preliminary project cost. The general contractor for the project is Pearson Construction. The total project is funded with FAA grants in the amount of $19,517,226 and $2,360,196 from Airport revenue for a total cost of $21,877,422. It is expected to be complete in August 2021.
