Today the Wichita Fire Department will bring a structural engineer and heavy equipment to the site of Thursday’s plane crash at the Flight Safety International building at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. There are portions of the building that must come down to ensure the safety of crews as they work to remove the four deceased victims. Three were found inside a flight simulator and one was found on the roof. The names and ages of the victims have not been released. The Sedgwick County Coroner’s Office will be the agency to release the names of the victims at a later date.
Wichita Police and Fire Department crews remain at the scene. Fire officials say crews put out a few small fires that occurred in the building overnight. Police officers are assisting with two street closures and management of the scene. Police officials encourage drivers to continue to avoid the area.
The National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) has scheduled a 4 p.m. media briefing today at the site. The NTSB will be handling further media briefings on the incident. NTSB Public Affairs Officer, Peter Knudson, can be reached at (202) 557-1350.
