Wichita Airport Parking: New Rates Take Effect March 23

March 22, 2019

New Parking Rates Take Effect March 23

New parking rates will go into effect on Saturday, March 23. Any tickets pulled before the new rates are programmed will receive the old rates for the duration of your stay. Signs are actively being changed now so that they will be correct by the time tickets are being issued with the new rates.

The current parking rates have been in effect since the new facilities opened in 2015, so a marginal incremental increase is wise versus getting behind the pricing curve and implementing higher rate increases later. These changes will provide revenue to meet airport financial projections, keep airline rates and charges reasonable, and allow for expanded parking services.

A cover for the top floor of the garage, surface parking covers/canopies in Economy and Short-Term Lots, as well as blue emergency phones and electric vehicle charging stations are a few of the future improvements that will be considered as funding is available.

Changes

Based on feedback from focus groups and customer parking behavior, we are making these changes in such a way as to move parkers to the desired lot and free-up some capacity in the garage. Our covered parking (i.e., levels 2 and 3 of the garage) typically reaches full capacity on Tuesday of most weeks and remains full for several days. In an effort to free up space for the higher-paying, longer-term garage user and encourage short-term parkers to use the adjacent surface parking, we have removed the free ‘grace’ period from the garage and increased the maximum daily rate by $1 for incremental revenue.

The “Close-In Lot” will be renamed the “Short-Term Lot” (due to public perception of the parking service name). We will expand the free ‘grace’ period to 60 minutes in the Short-Term lot, and increase the maximum daily rate by $5. This is intended to emphasize the lot’s purpose to be used by short-term parkers (a/k/a “hourly”, those dropping-off and picking-up) with a high turnover rate.

For clarity and due to minimal use, we are removing the free ‘grace’ period from Economy Lot and increasing the maximum daily rate by $1 for incremental revenue. We are also removing the free ‘grace’ period from Park & Ride Lot but no increase in rate.
