The City of Wichita and the Wichita Airport Authority announced yesterday the Advertisement for Construction Bids for the New Terminal Building at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. The New Terminal Building is the central component of the $160 million Air Capital Terminal 3 (ACT3) Program. ACT 3 is funded through a combination of FAA Grants, TSA Grants, Airport Passenger Facility Charges, and Airport Revenue. No local tax dollars are being used; only money from airport and aviation system users will pay for the project.
The New Terminal Building will be a distinctive, modern, state-of-the-art, two-level 273,000 square foot facility with twelve gates, each with a passenger loading bridge. The new energy efficient facility will have operationally efficient passenger and baggage security screening, baggage claim and airline ticketing systems. The food, beverage, and retail concessions will be greatly improved compared to the current terminal.
The terminal was designed by Kansas City-based HNTB Architecture, and the Program Manager is AECOM.
Construction bids for the New Terminal Building will be publicly opened on February 17, 2012. On January 11, 2012, the Airport will hold a Pre-Bid Meeting for contractors at 1:30 p.m. at the Wichita Airport Hilton. All potential bidders are encouraged to attend the Pre-Bid Meeting. Groundbreaking for the New Terminal is expected to be held in May 2012, with a new operational facility opening in late 2014 or early 2015.
