Southwest Airlines will begin nonstop service to Denver on September 6 instead of in December as earlier planned. Southwest will also suspend service to Las Vegas and Phoenix temporarily. Passengers will be able to access Las Vegas and Phoenix on Southwest through Denver. Southwest plans to return the Phoenix service in January and Las Vegas in March.
With constant changes in travel bans, quarantines, and increasing COVID-19 cases, travel demand has softened and is causing airlines to plan shorter schedules than before. It is likely that there will be more changes.
Southwest’s Denver service will depart Wichita at 1:35 pm, arriving in Denver at 1:55 pm. The return flight leaves Denver at 12:20 pm and arrives in Wichita at 2:35 pm. The service will be provided daily. Southwest does not charge fees for two bags and does not charge change fees.
Denver is a focus city for Southwest serving 69 markets from Denver including popular western destinations: Burbank, Los Angeles, Oakland, Ontario, CA, Orange County, Portland, Reno, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Seattle. Southwest is adding 16 gates in Denver which will open in 2021 and will enable Southwest to add more destinations. Southwest’s service to Denver means low-fare competition to more western destinations.
